NOTE
there are only 1 or 2 codices showing dancers wearing chachayotes
although the word exists in at least 9 dictionaries in Spanish/Nahuatl
written between 1533 and 1600
and it is also difficult to find them on the murals, or pottery, or drawings.
The 2 highlighted images are from the DRESDEN CODEX which is MAYAN
The only image I have been able to find ,
so far, of MEXICA wearing ayoyotes
is in the image above and below taken from the

Why are there so few images in the CODICES but they are defined in the dictionaries?
There are still many discoveries occurring in the Americas which will bring this info eventually to light

The god Tezcatlipoca.
He is painted black.
In his left hand he carries a fan at the center of which is a gold mirror
that reflects all that takes place in the world. The four arrows in his right
hand symbolize punishment for sinners.
The gold ear in his headdress is a sign that Tezcatlipoca hears the confessions
of wrongdoers.

While the image appears to be wearing ayoyotes no mention is made of it in the caption
